The Emergency Alert broadcast on 14 August was authorised by the First Secretary of State following a request from the National Fire Chiefs Council. Every Emergency Alert is carefully coordinated with responding public bodies and agencies.
This tool is only used in emergency scenarios and where the need is greatest. The Cabinet Office remains committed to reviewing every alert request on a case-by-case basis.

Councils in England may apply the second homes premium to Council Tax for dwellings which are substantially furnished but have no resident. Westminster City Council has applied the second homes premium to Council Tax charges for 2026/27 in respect of all such properties for which the Cabinet Office is currently responsible, and payments are being made as a matter of routine.

As part of their roles, Ministers in the Cabinet Office are issued standard Official Windows or MacBook Laptops and a standard iPhone or Android Official device. In some circumstances a tablet device may also be requested. These devices are managed by the internal Cabinet Office Digital teams, who are also responsible for maintaining the assets & inventory of all end user issued devices.
