That this House congratulates the winners of this year’s Provost Awards in Hamilton and Hillhouse, South Lanarkshire; commends the impressive and excellent community focused work of Lorraine Young in her eight years as secretary to Hillhouse Community Council, Mark Rouse and his involvement in Supporting Our Communities and food provision in the community, Marie McNab for her volunteer and event organisation work, Pauline Condie for her long service caring for the community as a nurse, Dianne McQuilter for her work with Link Resident Group, Chris Hatton for forming the successful Blantyre and Hamilton Litter Pickers, Alexander Wilkie MBE for his fundraising efforts with local groups and charities; looks forward to hearing of the upcoming winners for other South Lanarkshire communities; and wishes them the very best in their future voluntary works.

That this House recognises the essential and emotionally sensitive work undertaken by volunteers at the Hamilton branch of the charity Samaritans; further recognises the significant contribution of volunteers over the last 18 months, which have sadly seen an increase in demand for their services, which they have worked hard to ensure continues to be provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week; notes the success of their many workstreams, which see them work with the local prison, with cross-disciplinary teams to identify areas of local concern so that services can provide targeted support, and provide extensive educational programmes and support across the community; celebrates the commitment of their many volunteers, particularly those that have committed over 40 years of their lives to the cause; and wishes the branch every success in their future works.

That this House congratulates the Hamilton Citizens Advice Bureau, which is celebrating its 50 year anniversary; recognises their extensive work supporting the people of Hamilton and South Lanarkshire; highlights that in 2019-20 Hamilton Citizens Advice Bureau advised, represented and supported over 3,300 people, handled over 14,000 issues over 15 areas of advice and generated gains of £1.649 million for local communities in South Lanarkshire; applauds the Citizens Advice Bureau's participation in such projects as the South Lanarkshire Council Child Poverty Action Plan, the South Lanarkshire Community Plan, the Fuel Poverty Working Group and the Lanarkshire PACE Strategy Group; and wishes the Hamilton Citizens Advice Bureau another 50 successful years of supporting the people of South Lanarkshire.

That this House remembers that 5 June 2020 is the 50th anniversary of Burnbank Swifts' victory over Dundee Fairfield, marking the end of the most successful season in the club's history; understands that Burnbank Swifts won six cups during the 1969-70 season, including the Scottish Juvenile Cup, and played 50 games back-to-back undefeated; further understands that the Scottish Juvenile Cup Final between Burnbank Swifts and Dundee Fairfield was attended by Jock Stein, who was born in Burnbank and was keen to watch the team make history; notes that the team's achievement was later recognised in the Scottish Football Museum; believes that the spirit and determination of Burnbank Swifts' record-breaking season is an inspiring example of triumph over adversity and disadvantage; and congratulates the ex-players from the 1969-70 Burnbank Swifts team and recognises their place in the history books of Scottish football.

That this House welcomes the community response to covid-19 and thanks volunteers from across the UK who have worked day and night to ensure that elderly and vulnerable people can continue to access to food, medication and other essential items; pays tribute to Hamilton Covid-19 Warriors who were established by Janine Caine at the start of the pandemic to support those that are self-isolating or shielding due to illness; understands that the volunteer group have assisted hundreds of people across Hamilton by delivering vital supplies as well as supporting the good work of the Hamilton District Foodbank; and thanks Janine and her team of diligent volunteers for their efforts and wishes them well as they continue to support those that need it most at this difficult time.

That this House expresses its concern at the announcement by Royal Mail of plans to close the main Hamilton post office at Brandon Street and the proposed merger with a sub-post office in Cadzow Street; notes that the new proposed post office would be franchised with a supermarket/convenience store; rejects Post Office Ltd's assertion that such a change would safeguard the future of post office services in the town; considers Royal Mail's decision to be driven by asset stripping and selling off post office services to commercial interests; further notes that the new Cadzow Street office will not be as accessible as the current main office at Brandon Street and will have a detrimental effect on people travelling by foot or public transport, particularly the elderly and mothers with small children; calls on Royal Mail to withdraw its proposals and enter into discussions with community groups, trade unions, honourable Members, Members of the Scottish Parliament and local councillors to examine post office services in the town; and calls on the community to support the Hamilton Advertiser's campaign to save their Post Office.
