- To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, what investigations the EU is carrying out into vertical control in the motor fuel industry.

Mrs. Spelman: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what investigations the EU is carrying out into vertical control in the motor fuel industry. [146976] Mr. Hain: The EU is not currently carrying out any investigations into vertical control in the motor fuel industry. However, the European Commission has said that, if it came across any evidence of anti-competitive practice within its sphere of competence, it would not hesitate to take immediate action and impose the appropriate sanctions.
