Water: Meters

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what steps her Department has taken to ensure that water meters are produced to a satisfactory standard.

Answer: The water fittings regulations are national requirements for the design, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, water fittings and water-using appliances. The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme aims to develop criteria for testing materials and fittings, to assess the results of the testing of materials and fittings, to determine their compliance with the regulations specifications, and to publish up-to-date lists of satisfactory materials and fittings in the scheme's water fittings and materials directory.
