Local Government Association: Freedom of Information

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government if he will bring forward legislative proposals to make the Local Government Association subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Answer: The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, my right hon. Friend the Member for Brentwood and Ongar (Mr Pickles), specifically indicated his intention that the Local Government Group should be formally subject to Freedom of Information requirements, as part of the agreement to continue paying Revenue Support Grant top-slice funding on behalf of the sector. The Ministry of Justice announced on 7 January that it intends to consult the Local Government Association regarding its possible inclusion in the Freedom of Information Act.
