Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Maria Fyfe (Labour), on Wednesday, 12 December 1990, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 38 members in total.

COUNCILLORS' ALLOWANCES

That this House notes with concern the resignation from the leadership of Dundee District Council of Councillor Mary Ward, described in the Glasgow Herald as one of Scotland's few women political high flyers whom Scotland can ill afford to lose; further notes that the reason is not political opposition but the impossibility of combining long hours on council duties and care of a young child on the pittance paid to councillors; and urges the new Secretary of State for Scotland and the new Secretary of State for the Environment to bring fresh thinking to this long-neglected problem.
