To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what conditions her Department considers about the a) necessity and b) genuineness of work when making decisions on applications for Religious and Charity Worker visas.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what conditions her Department considers about the a) necessity and b) genuineness of work when making decisions on applications for Religious and Charity Worker visas.
All Religious and Charity Workers applications are considered on their individual merits against the Immigration Rules that are relevant to the routes. Should a concern be identified during the consideration of the application, then an assessment of their genuineness will be undertaken. Often this is through interviewing the individual to test the credibility of their intentions to undertake the role applied for which may lead to the refusal of their application.
The circumstances that would normally lead to the suspension or revocation of a sponsor licence, or any other compliance action are set out in Part 3 of the guidance for sponsors.

The Department recognises and applauds the work of Maggie’s, who, for more than thirty years, have provided caring and supportive environments for people with cancer and their families during their times of greatest need. Many other charities across the country provide similar help and play a crucial part within the overall support available to cancer patients and their families. The Department maintains a regular dialogue with those charities to assess how their services can be supported, including through the delivery of the National Cancer Plan.

Each Sponsor’s allocation of Certificates of Sponsorship is subject to an ‘eligible role’ assessment, which includes a consideration of the need and credibility of a particular role against the organisation’s profile. To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what support or emergency grant funding her Department provides to animal welfare charities and rescue shelters experiencing high surrender rates of pets.
Defra meets with stakeholders regularly to understand issues and trends that are affecting the companion animal sector, including the impact of the rise in the cost of living on pet keepers and welfare organisations.
This Government does not provide grant funding to animal welfare charities and rescue shelters, however, it welcomes the support such stakeholders are providing such as through pet food banks and financial support with veterinary treatment, which is helping to reduce the pressure on pet owners and the risk of pet abandonment.
Additionally, the Codes of Practice for Dogs and Cats remind prospective owners that owning a pet is a major responsibility, including financial and time implications which should be considered before getting a pet.

The Charity Commission for England and Wales does not usually provide an update on cases while they are ongoing. This approach allows the Commission to focus resources on its regulatory work. The Commission aims to provide an outcome statement to all complainants on conclusion of a case.
Regarding whistleblowers, the Commission is considering wider lessons to be learnt from the recent Committee of Privileges report, and it has also commissioned a judge-led independent review into its handling of the two cases.

The Charity Commission opens a regulatory compliance case when it assesses that concerns raised about a charity or disclosed by a charity itself require further investigation. The average time taken to close such cases, which are distinct from statutory inquiries, is shown below:

The Government is determined to ensure that everyone has access to affordable quality sport and physical activity opportunities. That's why we’ve invested £3 million into new all-weather, covered cricket domes this year which ensure accessible sport year-round, building on the £1.5m investment into covered cricket domes made last year. New and refurbished facilities give families low-cost options to stay active, helping when many are facing cost-of-living pressures. The wider sports sector helps to drive good growth in every postcode, something I saw when I visited Loughborough University’s Women in Sport Research and Innovation Hub last year.
Between 2022 and 2029, we are supporting grassroots participation with a £13.4m investment via Sport England and the England & Wales Cricket Board. Earlier this year, the ECB also launched their Building Belonging in Cricket Fund - a £45m investment to improve grassroots cricket facilities and help enable year-round play through the construction of all-weather cricket domes, indoor halls, multi-use games areas and community hubs. The ECB is working with Regional Cricket Boards, including Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Foundation, to identify potential projects.
In order to increase availability and accessibility to the local community, Sport England factors in a site's Community Use Agreement, and their capacity to offer free/low cost bookings when determining whether individual projects should receive funding.
We are collaborating with the sports sector, including the ECB, and local leaders to develop investment plans for a range of sports across the country based on what each community needs.
