The Government announced in the King's Speech its intention to publish a draft Audit Reform and Corporate Governance Bill that will transition the FRC to a new Audit, Reporting and Governance Authority and provide it with relevant powers. The Government will consider the recommendations of the report, including relating to the Government and FRC producing definitions and guidance on what constitutes distributable profits, as work progresses.

The Government’s objective continues to be ensuring the provision of a sustainable, accessible and affordable universal postal service.
It is for Ofcom, as the independent regulator of postal services, to set and monitor Royal Mail’s service standards and decide how to use its powers to investigate and take enforcement action should Royal Mail fail to achieve its obligations without good justification. The Government has no role in Ofcom’s regulatory investigations.
On 15 May 2023, Ofcom announced an investigation into Royal Mail’s quality of service performance for 2022-23.

The UK Endorsement Board has been delegated powers to consider new international accounting standards for UK adoption only; it has no remit over audit policy and audit standards.
This includes an assessment of the compatibility of new standards with the requirements of the International Accounting Standards and European Public Limited-Liability Company (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 No. 685 (IAS Regulations). The IAS Regulations require that “the standard meets the criteria of understandability, relevance, reliability and comparability required of the financial information needed for making economic decisions and assessing the stewardship of management.” These requirements were on-shored from EU legislation on the UK’s exit from the EU and have long been understood in the context of adoption of international accounting standards.
