Decisions on local recruitment and employment are a matter for individual National Health Service trusts, to ensure they have the right number of staff in place, with the right skill mix, to deliver safe and effective care, and the specific information requested by the Hon Member is not centrally collated by the Department.
However, on the broader point he raises, we know that student paramedics work incredibly hard to gain the skills needed to save lives and we want those who qualify to be able to care for patients as soon as possible.
This year has seen record numbers of ambulance staff in the NHS, including paramedics, and our upcoming 10 Year Workforce Plan will help ensure the NHS has the right staff, in the right places, to deliver the care that patients need.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, pursuant to the answer of 7 September 2026 to question 23152 on Air Ambulance Services: Cambridgeshire, what is the allocation of the eight Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine trainees across the three local education providers in Cambridgeshire.
The three local education providers (LEPs) are: Essex and Herts Air Ambulance; Magpas; and East Anglia Air Ambulance. Each trainee will rotate either six months full time across two of the LEPs over a year or spend two years undertaking pre-hospital emergency medicine (PHEM) training. The latter requires them to spend one year at 50% with a LEP, combined with an emergency medicine training post rotating three weeks on and three weeks off for emergency medicine/PHEM, before rotating in the same way for their second year at another LEP.

The Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board is working with the Cheshire and Merseyside Hospice Collaborative to develop a longer-term sustainability strategy, aligned to a wider, population needs-based commissioning strategy.
More widely, we are developing a modern service framework for palliative care and end-of-Life care to improve the access, quality, and sustainability of all-age palliative care and end-of-life care. The modern service framework will cover both generalist and specialist palliative care, and 24/7 provision will be considered as part of the interventions. Further metrics and associated targets will build on the 2029 ambitions set out in the Neighbourhood Health Framework, which include increasing the number of people identified as approaching the end of life by 10% and reducing non-elective admissions and hospital bed days by 10% for that cohort.

All children are entitled to a full-time education. While the department recognises that some parents, including NHS ambulance service staff, may face constraints in choosing their annual leave because of operational rostering arrangements, we do not believe the solution is to endorse additional time away from school.
The department does not collect data on the occupations of parents who receive penalty notices, which means trends specifically affecting families of NHS ambulance service staff cannot be identified from the data available.
The national framework for penalty notices is designed to ensure fairness and consistency by applying expectations equally to all, rather than through blanket exemptions for particular occupations. Headteachers retain the discretion to grant leave of absence in exceptional circumstances and must consider each application individually, taking account of the specific facts and circumstances presented by the family. A family holiday would not normally constitute an exceptional circumstance.

The procurement of equipment by National Health Service ambulance trusts is an operational matter for individual trusts. Trusts are responsible for assessing and procuring the equipment that best meets the needs of their patients, workforce, and local operational requirements.

It is unacceptable that patients across the United Kingdom continue to wait lengthy periods for treatment and it is imperative that the elective waiting list and ambulance response times are top priorities for all four nations.
While health is predominantly a devolved issue, the Department works collaboratively with the devolved governments wherever possible, to drive forward our objective of supporting people to lead more independent, healthier lives for longer. There are National Health Service England Working Groups across the four nations that meet regularly to discuss both elective care and urgent and emergency care.
