To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, what steps are being taken to attract inward investment and create jobs in NI.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, what steps are being taken to attract inward investment and create jobs in NI.
My department works closely with Northern Ireland Executive departments, Invest NI and other partners to attract inward investment and create jobs across Northern Ireland. BIST’s global network promotes NI internationally as an attractive investment destination, while the Office for Investment Place team and BIST NI support strategic opportunities, develop investor pipelines and can deploy UK Government levers where appropriate. The NI Enhanced Investment Zone, established across the whole of Northern Ireland, aims to accelerate investment, productivity and create jobs. Bank of America’s recent expansion into Belfast, creating up to 1,000 roles, demonstrates continued international confidence in NI’s investment proposition.

- This answer is provided at a time when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Middle East region more generally, is facing material challenges given the ongoing regional conflict.
- Given that the press release names specific companies, it is for those companies to update as to the current situation and would be commercially sensitive and inappropriate for us to do so.
- The two main job-creating Saudi companies mentioned, Alfanar and International Investment Gate, are however well-known to the British Embassy in Riyadh and the Office for Investment. Their UK ambitions are in line with our Modern Industrial Strategy and, I understand, are progressing well.

As part of the Defence Industrial Strategy's commitment to backing British businesses, we launched a public consultation on a possible UK offset policy on 23 October. The consultation seeks input on key principles for implementation, including exploring effective ways of applying offset requirements to defence procurement contracts to deliver jobs. It is essential that any offset policy is explored and developed in partnership with the defence sector so we should not pre-empt the outcome of this consultation.
