That this House welcomes the consumers' associations' campaigns to draw European Commissioner Bangemann's attention to the concern of consumers throughout the United Kingdom that the EC should proceed immediately with a proposal on furniture flammability on the basis of currently available tests, and so improve the protection of consumers all over Europe against the dangers of polyurethane foam fires and alleviate the difficulties faced by Britain's trading standards officers and customs officials in seeking to ensure that only furniture complying with the current United Kingdom law may be imported into the United Kingdom.
