The Development Consent Order for Mottram Bypass will be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate this calendar year to support a proposed start of works for the scheme in 2021/2022.

I have met the hon. Gentleman and been to see the particular problems in his area, and I agree that they are acute. I urge everybody to participate in the consultation. Let us try to get the problem finally solved.

Highways England is progressing with the design and assessment of options for the Mottram Bypass as part of the wider Trans-Pennine Upgrade Programme announced by the Government in the Road Investment Strategy in December 2014.

Planning for a Non Statutory Public Consultation on the options is under way and scheduled to take place in spring 2017. Details of the consultation approach will be shared with stakeholders and local Members of Parliament in early February 2017.

Two public awareness events were held in Hollingworth and Tankersley in October 2016 to inform the public of the planned improvements and to obtain early feedback on the emerging proposals. These events were also helpful in seeking a consensus on the potential extension of the benefits of the Mottram bypass to the residents of Hollingworth and Tintwistle.

The feedback from the local events has helped inform the development of the proposals which will be shared with the public at the consultation planned for spring 2017.

Following non-statutory consultation in spring 2017, Highways England will consider the feedback before making a recommendation to the Secretary of State for a Preferred Route in summer 2017.

Highways England is currently identifying and assessing options for the Trans Pennine Routes which includes the Mottram by-pass. A public consultation on the Preferred Route is currently planned to take place in early 2017. There will also be two public awareness events in October 2016 which will provide an opportunity for people in the local communities to meet the project team, receive an update on progress and provide feedback which can then be used in the development of the scheme.

Planning permission for this scheme will require an application for a Development Consent Order and start of works is planned by March 2020 in line with the Highways England’s Delivery Plan 2015 – 2020.

The A57/A628 Mottram bypass was confirmed in the first Road Investment Strategy in December 2014. Following this, Highways England has started developing its design in more detail. This work involves considering variations for the route, which Highways England will be seeking feedback on from stakeholders, including the local communities through which it passes.

Before seeking this feedback, Highways England will assess options to establish what impacts they have – both positive and negative - on the environment, the wider network and economy. They will present information from the assessment to the public in the summer of 2016.

Once this design and assessment work has been completed, the higher-performing options will be put before the public through a consultation process then as part of the statutory planning process. Public consultation is planned for 2017.

Statistics on the location of asylum seekers in the UK are linked to the available information on those asylum seekers who are in receipt of section 95 support. The numbers of asylum seekers in receipt of support are available broken down by Local Authority.

As at the end of June 2015, there were 253 asylum seekers receiving Section 95 support from Tameside Local Authority. Similarly, as at the end of June 2014 there were 200 and as at the end of June 2013 there were 184 asylum seekers receiving Section 95 support from Tameside Local Authority.

These figures exclude any asylum seekers who may be living in Tameside but are not receiving support, as figures are not held. These figures also exclude refugees (i.e. those who have been granted asylum) as these figures are not held.

The numbers of asylum seekers in receipt of section 95 support, broken down by Local Authority, are published on a quarterly basis by the Home Office in Table as_16_q of the Immigration Statistics release. We do not disclose the details of where refugees are resettled upon their arrival in the UK under the Government resettlement schemes as this may undermine the privacy and recovery of this vulnerable group of people.
