All staff in contact with prisoners are required to receive training on suicide and self-harm prevention.
We have also developed a new ‘Introduction to Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention’ course that includes a module on mental health awareness. From May 2017 this will be provided as part of the entry level training for new prison officers, and nearly three hundred trainers have been trained to facilitate its delivery in prisons as refresher training for existing staff.
We do not hold centrally the amount spent in all prisons on suicide and self-harm prevention training.

Work is ongoing to deliver the Midland Main Line programme, which includes electrification as well as capacity and journey time improvement works, and we are on track to deliver the next key output milestone by 2019 which will enable the next East Midlands franchise to deliver more capacity and faster journeys. Network Rail's estimated expenditure to date on this programme is approximately £330 million (cash prices).
The Transpennine Route Upgrade, which intends to deliver faster journeys and increased capacity between Manchester, Leeds and York by the end of 2022, is currently in the design and development phase. It is not possible to separate the cost of the work on proposed electrification from the other development costs.

During the last seven years, the Department has funded research through its Policy Research Programme (PRP) and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The Medical Research Council (MRC) is an independent research funding body which receives its grant in aid from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. MRC expenditure on cancer research includes research into the biology, causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer as well as research on outcomes. Information on local areas’ use of external support is not held centrally. It is for each partner within every Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) area to decide where they may need support or advice from external organisations.
All partners within each STP area need to be disciplined about keeping costs as low as possible as they work to alleviate pressures on the National Health Service, and improve patient care.

There has not been, and there is no plan for, a new remote IT system specifically to support Marine Surveyors working remotely for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
The MCA already provides each surveyor with a laptop, mobile phone and printer to support the undertaking of survey and Port State Control inspections at ports. Surveyors are able to, and have been for some time, working remotely using the existing IT equipment.
However, replacement equipment will be issued across the whole of the MCA from April 2017, in line with an organisation-wide refresh.
