To ask the Secretary of State for Defence pursuant to question 187339 of 11 February 2014, where each vacancy is located; and what the role of each position is.
Safety-Critical posts are fielded across the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) organisation in a number of areas. The role of these posts is defined in DE&S policy as having specified safety-related, decision-making responsibilities and accountabilities, and must be filled by people competent to make such decisions. Should a post become vacant, priority is given to recruitment action. Until the vacancy is filled, the post responsibilities are either transferred to other competent people or, to ensure safety, related activities cease.
Safety-Critical post data is reviewed on a monthly basis and as at 1 April 2014 there were 97 vacant Safety-Critical posts in DE&S out of a total of 1,321. The number of Safety-Critical posts and vacancies will change regularly to reflect project requirements and as the result of staff turnover. Current vacancies are located as follows:

I should have hoped for more order at Jobcentre Plus than some hon. Members have been displaying, Mrs Riordan.
It must be at least 25 years ago that I suggested that help should be given to those who had difficulty finding a job. There may be fraud, and we should ask...

I welcome that information. As the Minister knows, in this case, Jobcentre Plus invited the fraudster in to have an office in the DWP, so one of my questions was what steps the Department takes to ensure that when it offers people office space in the Department, they are bona...

I will come to that. We have more than half a million businesses and 6.1 million claimants on the site, and nearly 5 million job searches a day. We know that there will be instances—it is less than 0.1%, as I said—where something goes wrong. What matters is how we...

The information requested falls within the responsibility of the UK Statistics Authority. I have asked the Authority to reply.
Letter from Glen Watson, Director General for ONS, to Lord Clement-Jones, dated April 2014.
As Director General for the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your Parliamentary Question To ask Her Majesty’s Government for the latest estimate of the number of job vacancies in the United Kingdom; and, of that figure, how many are (1) full-time, (2) part-time, and (3) zero-hours contracts, temporary or self-employed vacancies. (HL6530)
The latest estimate from the ONS Vacancy Survey for December 2013 to February 2014 is that there were 588,000 job vacancies. The ONS Vacancy Survey does not collect information on full-time, part-time or zero-hours contracts so these breakdowns are not available.

Headline figures on the number of unfilled vacancies at a point in time are published by the Office for National Statistics, based on a regular survey of employers. Latest figures, covering January-March 2014, show over 600,000 vacancies available in the UK economy at any one time. The sample size of the survey is, however, too small to allow information to be published below national level.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (1) how many and what proportion of vacancies currently available on Universal Jobmatch are employee only jobs;
In answering question 195183 we have interpreted “employee only jobs” as meaning “employee owner status jobs.”
Universal Jobmatch revolutionises the way jobseekers look for work and it has already helped many jobseekers find the jobs they want. It is part of the Government's plan for providing easy online access to Government services for all.
Universal Jobmatch has streamlined our existing services for employers and empowered claimants to take more responsibility for their jobsearch and get more targeted support from advisers.
It does not capture information on the number and proportion of zero-hours contracts or ‘employee owner' status jobs.
Jobcentre Plus guidance stipulates that claimants should not be mandated to apply for a job offering a zero hours contract. It also states that no sanction action will be taken if claimants refuse or fail to apply.
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what steps he is taking to ensure that jobs advertised on Universal Jobmatch do not breach his Department's terms and conditions.

The vast majority of employers offer genuine vacancies for jobseekers to apply for-however, we don't hesitate to take action against anyone who tries to break the rules. Where we identify vacancies that may not comply with our terms and conditions we suspend the vacancy, investigate and remove if appropriate. If the employer is unable to provide assurance of compliance with terms and conditions, their account will also be suspended.

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what the current number of job vacancies is in the Thirsk, Malton and Filey travel-to-work area.
The Universal Jobmatch System was introduced in November 2012. The system does not provide data for travel-to-work areas. However, I can confirm the number of live jobs on the system in these towns at 8 April 2014.

We do not advertise in jobcentres, all vacancies are now advertised on Universal Jobmatch System, which was introduced in November 2012. The system does not provide data at jobcentre level, as all vacancies notified to the system are available to ail users.

Jobseekers are not required to apply for zero-hours contract vacancies, they will not be sanctioned as a result of not applying.
