The visit to Rwanda and DRC played an important part in the lead-up to the G8 meeting of Foreign Ministers in London on 11 April, and the adoption of a historic Declaration on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict.

Between January and March 2013, the Deputy Prime Minister visited Yorkshire and Humberside twice, and visited seven places on these days. He has also visited the West Midlands and the south-west in this timeframe, but did not visit the north-west and north-east. In 2012, the Deputy Prime Minister made four visits to Yorkshire and Humberside, three visits to the north-west and five visits to the north-east, as well as visits to other regions.

The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport visited Yorkshire on 28 January and the Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries visited the north-west on the 17 January and 7 March.

The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right honourable friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague), visited Rwanda, as part of a wider trip to central Africa, from 25-27 March. He visited Kigali on 26 March where he had a successful meeting with President Kagame. They discussed the need for a lasting solution to the conflict in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the terrible damage being caused in the region by the use of sexual violence as a weapon in conflict, and covered a number of bilateral issues.

In my capacity as Senior Minister of State, I attended a regional Cabinet meeting in Leeds on 28 January and an event in Bradford on 10 February with the then Prime Minister of Pakistan. The Minister of State for Trade and Investment, my noble friend Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, had one engagement in Blackburn.
There is no record of any other engagements between January and March 2013 undertaken by Foreign and Commonwealth Office Ministers in their ministerial capacity.
