That this House notes the Alzheimer's Disease Society's public awareness week from 5th to 11th July; congratulates it on the publication of its report Deprivation and Dementia; expresses its concern that in a survey of over 1,300 carers the Society found only 28 per cent. had access to an NHS continuing care bed; further notes that half of all carers spent more than 80 hours per week caring for a relative or friend with dementia and 42 per cent. stated they needed more professional help or respite care; recognises the extra cost and financial difficulties faced by carers; and calls upon the Government to give a high priority to the needs of people with dementia and their carers.
