The Chancellor announced the establishment of the UK Stem Cell Initiative in the Budget of 16 March, 2005 to formulate a ten-year vision for stem cell research. Sir John Pattison was commissioned at this time to chair the Initiative. Sir John then invited, on the advice of officials, a panel of public and private stakeholders to support him in producing the Initiative’s report.
