The administration of Jobcentre Plus is a matter for the chief executive of Jobcentre Plus, Lesley Strathie. I have asked her to provide the hon. Member with the information requested.Letter from Mel Groves, dated 17 June 2008:"The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your question asking what annual savings will result from the withdrawal from the 12th May 2008 of access to the week-day evening Out of Hours Service operated by Jobcentre Plus for his Department's customers in Dorset and Somerset This is something that falls within the responsibilities delegated to Ms Strathie as Chief Executive of Jobcentre Plus. I am replying in her absence as Acting Chief Executive.""If the level of access to our weekend Out of Hours Service (Saturday and Sunday) in Dorset and Somerset continues at 2007/08 levels, we anticipate a reduction in administrative costs of 28%, amounting to 5,855 per annum."

I am replying on her behalf as Acting Chief Executive.""I am unable to provide details of customer usage in Christchurch Jobcentre in the last 6 months as this information is not recorded. I can tell you that Christchurch has a Jobseekers Allowance customer load of 277 customers and an Income Support/Incapacity Benefit customer load of 2,065, of which 1,720 are sick and disabled and 345 are Lone Parents. As part of the consultation period which began on 21 May 2007, for 6 weeks, we will be analysing usage in detail via a questionnaire to customers who visit the office.""Lesley Strathie’s letter of 14 December referred to the Service Delivery Plan, which has yet to be finalised as we are just entering the consultation period. This is something which falls within the responsibilities delegated to me as Chief Executive of Jobcentre Plus.""Christchurch Jobcentre was refurbished as a Jobcentre Plus office, opening on 26 January 2004. During October 2006, 176 interviews took place with advisers in the Christchurch Jobcentre Plus office.""Jobcentre Plus is not required to collect information on the number of people who visit their offices. However, the manager of the Christchurch office arranged for an exercise to be undertaken in October 2006 to establish how many people visited the office. This showed that there were over 1,200 visits by customers to the Christchurch office to use the jobpoints or the free telephones. We are not able to confirm how many of these visits were unique or repeat visits.""For the national roll out of Jobcentre Plus approximately £320,000 was spent on the refurbishment of the Christchurch office. This is the only cost incurred in the last seven years. We pay an annual charge to Land Services Trillium to manage our estate, which includes the costs of replacing any premises equipment. Our IT equipment costs are charged at a national level through our contract with EDS, this figure is not broken down by site, therefore I am unable to provide site specific information about this.""The running costs for the Christchurch office, excluding staffing, are as follows:"

If we wish to vacate the premises we are required to give notice to Land Securities Trillium. It is then for them to sublet the building if there is any remaining time left on the lease. In the case of the Christchurch office we are required to give 12 months notice if we wish to vacate the premises.""I hope this is helpful."

The administration of Jobcentre Plus is a matter for the Chief Executive of Jobcentre Plus, Lesley Strathie. I have asked her to provide the hon. Member with the information requested.Letter from Lesley Strathie:"The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your questions about the Christchurch Jobcentre Plus office. This is something which falls within the responsibilities delegated to me as Chief Executive of Jobcentre Plus.""Christchurch Jobcentre was refurbished as a Jobcentre Plus office, opening on 26 January 2004. During October 2006, 176 interviews took place with advisers in the Christchurch Jobcentre Plus office.""Jobcentre Plus is not required to collect information on the number of people who visit their offices. However, the manager of the Christchurch office arranged for an exercise to be undertaken in October 2006 to establish how many people visited the office. This showed that there were over 1,200 visits by customers to the Christchurch office to use the jobpoints or the free telephones. We are not able to confirm how many of these visits were unique or repeat visits.""For the national roll out of Jobcentre Plus approximately £320,000 was spent on the refurbishment of the Christchurch office. This is the only cost incurred in the last seven years. We pay an annual charge to Land Services Trillium to manage our estate, which includes the costs of replacing any premises equipment. Our IT equipment costs are charged at a national level through our contract with EDS, this figure is not broken down by site, therefore I am unable to provide site specific information about this.""The running costs for the Christchurch office, excluding staffing, are as follows:"
"The Christchurch office is 574 square metres. For the operational year 2006-07 the rent for the building will be £182,620 and the business rates will be £19,620. Seven full-time staff and four part-time staff are currently based at the office. The leases on our buildings are the responsibility of our partner organisation Land Securities Trillium. If we wish to vacate the premises we are required to give notice to Land Securities Trillium. It is then for them to sublet the building if there is any remaining time left on the lease. In the case of the Christchurch office we are required to give 12 months notice if we wish to vacate the premises.""I hope this is helpful."

This is something, which falls within the responsibilities delegated to me as Chief Executive of Jobcentre Plus.""Jobcentre Plus in Dorset and Somerset is still in the process of reviewing and finalising its Service Delivery Plan of the whole of the District. The aim of this review is to ensure that the network of Jobcentre Plus offices provides sufficient capacity for potential customers. Christchurch Jobcentre Plus will be considered as part of this review.""Consequently, the final set of proposals relating to the whole of the District and the possible future of Christchurch Jobcentre Plus has not yet been put to the Jobcentre Plus Board. I am sorry if my Jobcentre Plus Programme Director’s letter of 6 November to you was unclear on this point. If the Jobcentre Plus Board agreed that there is a case for any office closure a submission is then made to the Minister to seek approval to start a consultation period. If after this exercise it is still felt that closure is warranted then a further submission is made to the Minister for his consideration. Therefore, there is a lengthy and detailed consideration of any closure proposal before a final decision is made.""In the case of Dorset and Somerset District it is likely that the revised Service Delivery Plan will be put to the Jobcentre Plus Board within the next month."

They will bear the cost, including charges for facilities, of approximately £1 million a year. Jobcentre Plus will be responsible for fitting the building to Jobcentre Plus standards at a cost of approximately £2.7 million.""The office will be on three floors, covering 2,888 square metres. The building, on present staffing levels, will house 181 staff, but this is subject to change due to staff movement and business need.""The new building will house staff from 2 existing offices in Old Christchurch Road and Cotlands Road Bournemouth, and centralise all Jobcentre Plus functions on one site. The new office is well served by public transport and close to the local railway station.""I hope this is helpful."

During this time, Blandford, Bridport, Christchurch and Wareham were refurbished to meet the corporate Jobcentre Plus vision. As
Poole was relocated to a new site, new build costs were incurred.
