These figures relate to any purchase vehicle acquired by the Environment Agency, the Animal and Plant Health Agency and Natural England from 1 January 2021 to date.
Our purchasing policy for fleet assets is built upon our strategic aim, aligned to our corporate ambition, to be a net carbon zero organisation by 2030. The policy will ensure that our owned fleet of vehicles are zero emission by 31 December 2027, in line with Government targets.

The FCDO does not hold detailed information centrally on the number of vehicles purchased in the current financial year. The FCDO's Fixed Asset Register records the number of vehicles that are brought into service. This is not broken down by fuel type. The Register added 307 vehicles between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2022. The FCDO maintains a policy for the purchase of low emission vehicles requiring these to not exceed 75g of Carbon Dioxide per Kilometre and preferably to not exceed 50g of Carbon Dioxide per Kilometre, subject to certain exemptions including local availability.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is committed to reducing the emissions emitted by its use of road-legal vehicles to support the Government's Net Zero targets.
The majority of road legal vehicles used across Defence are leased through the Phoenix II Contract. There are only a limited number of purchased vehicles, and these are often adapted for specialist roles such as military policing. Information on the types and numbers of vehicles leased under contract between 1 February 2021 and 1 February 2023 is provided below:

Vehicle manufacturers are currently unable to offer an electric vehicle that meets with specific requirements needed for specialist vehicles. For example, High security prison vans and National Tactical Response vehicles.
However, the Ministry of Justice remains committed to the achievement of government targets across its car and van fleet to be 0 emissions by the end of December 2027.

In terms of existing vehicles, the Department currently contracts with the Government Car Service, which is a division within the Department for Transport, for the provision of two cars. The vehicles supplied to the Department by the Government Car Service are owned and operated by the Department for Transport and are leased by the Department.
