NHS England has contacted eligible individuals to let them know they should receive their Government issued lateral flow tests within two weeks, to use should they become symptomatic. NHS England commissions NHS Digital to run weekly searches to identify newly eligible people to ensure they are notified of their potential access to treatment and sent tests as quickly as possible. If their tests run out, they can be re-ordered online or by calling 119.

No estimate has been made as the information is not held in the format requested. However, during the week commencing 3 January 2022, 48.3% of in-person test results were received within 24 hours and 81.6% within 48 hours.

In England, approximately 1.3 million individuals have been pre-identified as potentially eligible under the clinical access policy for new treatments to reduce the risk of deterioration or hospitalisation from COVID-19 infection. These patients have been notified by email or by letter, depending on the patient's contact preferences. Newly eligible patients can be referred by their general practitioner, NHS 111 or their hospital doctor, should they test positive for COVID-19. As of 7 January 2022, an estimated 1.26 million priority polymerase chain reaction test kits had been sent to patients in England who are in the highest risk group.

In England, guidance recommends offering a hepatitis C (HCV) test to patients who received a blood transfusion in the United Kingdom before 1991. In addition, a variety of initiatives and resources have been developed to support healthcare providers, commissioners and others to improve the identification of cases and testing in both the general population and among high-risk groups.
HIV testing was encouraged for those who received blood prior to 1985. All individuals who acquired HIV through blood transfusion prior to 1991 have been diagnosed. Screening for hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been in place since 1972. The risk of acquiring HBV between 1972 and 1991 is extremely small.
