The existing online Right to Work, Right to Rent and “View and Prove your Immigration Status” services can already be quickly, simply and safely used on a mobile phone web browser. They enable visa holders to generate “share codes” that can be passed on to employers, landlords and other parties, enabling them to check the visa holder’s rights and conditions of stay in the UK. Likewise, third parties given a share code can just as easily use a mobile phone web browser to view the information shared by the visa holder in this way.
Our digital services are constantly being improved based on user feedback and research. We will consider whether a cost-effective mobile phone app could be introduced and would bring benefits to visa holders and checkers over and above the current status checking service.

Home Office officials have already met with the 3million group to discuss the use of a QR code system for this purpose.
We are actively considering the feasibility of the suggested approach and will respond more fully to the suggestion in due course.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what plans she has to introduce a mobile application to simplify the process for EU citizens proving their status when travelling into the UK.
Individuals who have been granted digital status are not required to provide evidence of this to cross the border. Provided the individual travels using a document they either used to apply or have added to their UKVI account, their status will be automatically recognised at the border.
Where an individual travels using a document not known to the Home Office, they may be asked further questions or further manual systems checks may be conducted at the primary control point in order to verify their status.
Beyond this, and as part of our efforts towards becoming a world-leading immigration system beyond 2022 we will aim to deliver a fully end-to-end digital experience for those arriving at the UK border. We will also ensure support is available for those unable to use online services or who may otherwise be digitally excluded
