The Government intends to publish a White Paper in Winter 2018/19, which will set out our plans to tackle online harms and set clear responsibilities for tech companies to keep UK citizens safe.

We are considering the full range of possible solutions to address the issues raised by the internet. This includes options around a regulatory framework, as well as broader non-legislative initiatives.

Work with other bodies such as the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the National Trading Standards Board (NTSB) and Which? continues to raise awareness of this issue and ensures action is taken where appropriate.

We take the issue of misleading websites very seriously. Most people encounter them though advertisements on search result pages, so we are working with Google to help them identify and remove those adverts. We have also made more money available to support the National Trading Standards Board to investigate this issue.

In cases where there is belief that a website operator is acting in a clearly misleading way, Government will act to curtail their activities via organisations such as the Advertising Standards Agency, Office of Fair Trading, Information Commissioner's Office and search providers.

In the year since the launch of Gov.uk in October 2012 it had received 429 million visits. It was recently ranked as the 46^th most visited website in the UK.
