That this House is concerned at the freedom the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency holds under regulation 27 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations to release names and addresses of car owners to private companies; notes that the law expresses reasonable cause as being sufficient reason to release such data but defines the term no further; considers that the release of the information poses the risk of abuse by non regulated recipients such as clamping companies; and believes that information should be released only for the purposes of maintaining road safety.
