While decisions and payments on the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 claims are entirely a matter for police authorities, the Government has worked closely with affected authorities to ensure victims are fully compensated. As of early September, police authorities have now settled the majority of uninsured claims:
95% of all active valid uninsured individuals' claims originally received have now been dealt with by police authorities.
The Metropolitan Police Service also received a number of further claims for compensation after insurers had repudiated claims. Decisions have been made on 85% of these cases.
