Mr. Swinney: To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many (a) staff, (b) personal computers, (c) printers, (d) fax
machines and (e) vehicles are based at his Department's offices at Northgate in Glasgow; and what the annual running costs are of
this facility. [148434]
Angela Eagle: This is a matter for Alexis Cleveland, the Chief Executive of the Benefits Agency. She will write to the hon. Member.
Letter from Alexis Cleveland to Mr. John Swinney, dated 5 February 2001:
The Secretary of State for Social Security has asked me to reply to your Parliamentary Question about how many (a) staff, (b)
personal computers, (c) printers, (d) fax machines and (e) vehicles are based at his Department's offices at Northgate in Glasgow;
and what the annual running costs are of the facility.
There are 875 staff employed at Glasgow Benefits Centre, Northgate. 151 of these work on a part-time basis. Salary costs for April
1999 to March 2000 were £12,097,992. Non-staff costs for the same period were £934,705.
There are 712 personal computers (PCs) attached to the benefit processing computer systems, 272 stand alone PCs, 12 laptop
computers, 185 printers and 41 fax machines. There are no vehicles based at Northgate.
I hope this is helpful.
