Sir Teddy Taylor: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how much has been raised for charitable purposes
through National Lottery funding since its establishment. [180448]
Estelle Morris: From the inception of the National Lottery to 31 May 2004, the charitable, expenditure good cause has
received £2,718,682,810.93. This money has been for distribution by the Community Fund.
This is made up of £2,469,620,150.50 in income from Lottery operations and £249,062,660.43 in investment returns accrued on balances
held for distribution prior to their dispersal to project operators.

Mr. Don Foster: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what representations her Department has received from
(a) the museum and (b) the heritage sectors in relation to introducing Gift Aid tax relief (i) in writing, (ii) in
meetings and (iii) in any forms since 1997; and if she will make a statement. [156009]
Mr. Caborn: Such information as is available about the representations this Department has received from the museums and heritage
sectors since 1997 in relation to Gift Aid tax relief is provided below. These relate to the changes to the Gift Aid Scheme
announced in the Pre-Budget Report (Cm 6042).
Written representations have been received from The Charleston Trust, Chatham Historic Dockyard, Bronte Society and Dulwich Picture
Gallery, Mr. G. Lovewell Blake and R. P. Heyworth.
In addition representatives from the following representative bodies and associations and DCMS sponsored bodies attended a recent
meeting arranged by the Department with Inland Revenue officials to discuss the implementation of the proposed changes: Association
of Independent Museums, Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions Ltd,
Chatham Historic Dockyards Trust, ECSITE-UK, English Heritage, Historic Royal Palaces, Millennium Commission, Museums Association,
National Maritime Museum, North of England Zoological Society, Visitor Attractions Forum, Zoological Society London.
The Government are consulting closely with charities that might be affected by changes to the Gift Aid legislation announced in the
Pre-Budget Report, through their associations and representative bodies, on the detail of how the change may be best achieved.

Mr. Caborn: DCMS officials have been talking to Inland Revenue colleagues and representatives of a variety of associations and
representative bodies about the implementation of changes to the Gift Aid Scheme announced in the pre-Budget report with a view to
ensuring that the changes do not cause unnecessary problems for the charities affected.

Miss Kirkbride: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what recent representations she has had from charities
about (a) the funding they are able to generate and (b) the impact of the National Lottery on donations. [145564]
Estelle Morris: We have received no such representations. Charities have been significant beneficiaries of Lottery funding. Since
1995, the Community Fund has given £2.6 billion to more than 56,000 charities and community groups. This is in addition to the many
charities which have benefited from grants from the other Lottery distributors.
