The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care held a wide-ranging discussion on the role that social media companies, including Facebook, can play to tackle the spread of vaccine misinformation online.
We continue to work with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, media, social media and technology companies, including Facebook, to limit the impact and spread of misinformation and promote positive messages about vaccination.

The UK is concerned by the media law package proposed by the Albanian Government which, if enacted, allows the authorities to impose immediate fines and remove contested content without a court order. We are aware that the package has been submitted for consideration to the Venice Commission and we await its conclusion.
The British Government is committed to promoting media freedom internationally, highlighted by the Media Freedom Campaign launched in November 2018 to shine a spotlight on media freedom and increase the cost to those abusing media freedom and persecuting journalists.
