G4S were awarded the contract for the provision of accommodation and transport services for asylum applicants in June 2012. Since this time, there has been a period of transition during which asylum applicants have been moved from the previous housing provider to G4S accommodation. This transition completed on 4 December. All asylum applicants in the Yorkshire area are now accommodated by G4S.

No representations about non-payment of contractors by G4S for the London 2012 Games have been received by the Home Office. G4S's contract for security at Olympic and Paralympic venues was with the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG). However, I understand from G4S that they have settled claims from 16 sub-contractors and are in commercial negotiation with the remaining three.

G4S were awarded the contract for the provision of accommodation and transport services for asylum applicants on 9 March 2012. Since this time, there has been a period of transition during which asylum applicants have been moved from the previous housing providers to G4S accommodation. This transition period is now complete and all asylum applicants in the Yorkshire area are accommodated by G4S.

I can confirm that applications under the Business Appointment Rules (BAR) process were authorised for the following: one payband SCS3 to take up employment as an independent consultant for G4S; one payband SCS2 to take up employment to work for Sodexo; one payband SCS2 to take up employment to work for G4S and one payband SCS1 to take up employment with G4S since May 2010.
Where appropriate, restrictions were placed on the activities individuals could undertake in their new employment. For example, as a general principle, there is a two year ban on civil servants at SCS3 and above lobbying Government (including Ministers, special advisers and officials) on behalf of their new employer after leaving the civil service.
Since April 2012 there have been no applications from individuals in paybands SCS1, SCS2 and SCS3 to work for any of these companies.
I can release the details of the payband SCS3 because his name has previously been released—he is Philip Wheatley, previously Director General of the National Offender Management Service.
Under the Data Protection Act, it is not appropriate for me to disclose the names of the other individuals I refer to in my answer.

The Department does not centrally collect information on the contracts which individual national health service bodies hold with private sector companies. NHS trusts and foundation trusts are now expected to publish all tender and contract information for contracts over £10,000, a requirement which applies to all central. Government Departments.

The contract for security during the Olympic Games was between G4S and the London Organising Committee (LOCOG) as event organiser rather than with the Government and commercial negotiations are ongoing. The Ministry of Defence is currently calculating the cost of its involvement and this will be passed to LOCOG for its negotiations with G4S.
Claims for compensation by service personnel who have been financially disadvantaged by their deployment can be made through service channels. However, it is too soon to say how many have, or will be compensated and how much this figure will come to. There is no time limit imposed on submitting claims.
The largest claim that the single services can authorise is for £5,000 and we anticipate that most claims will be below this figure. There are mechanisms in place through direct contact with the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency to deal with any claim in excess of that figure.

G4S did not deliver their contract with LOCOG in full, but they still made a significant contribution—alongside the police and armed forces personnel—to games security. However, rightly, they will only be paid for the services that they provided and will meet the additional police and military costs that were incurred.
