That this House notes the plans for the proposed development at Llanishen and Lisvane Reservoirs in Cardiff; further notes that this is an area of outstanding natural beauty and that people of all ages and from all walks of life enjoy it and its facilities; recalls that the Welsh Yachting Association has praised the Llanishen Sailing Centre, based at the reservoirs, for its production of two world champions and for the nature of its facilities, which are the most outstanding in any of the British regions; congratulates the Sailing Centre on its 13th birthday this year; objects to the recent Llanishen Water statement that the area's development would improve the sailing facilities, in light of the fact that the area of water available would be substantially reduced and that new homes would create a wind shadow, altering the wind direction across the reservoir and making it more difficult to sail; and, in concert with residents across Cardiff, calls for the area around the reservoirs to be designated as a country park, thus ensuring that the city stands ready to face the environmental challenges of the future and that this community sports facility and wildlife haven is preserved.
