That this House congratulates the Tidy Britain Group on its National Spring Clean Campaign to clear the United Kingdom of litter; notes with dismay the annual national cost to council taxpayers of ??320 million per year to remove litter from streets; further notes with dismay the annual cost to the council taxpayers of the Borough of Macclesfield totalling ??698,000; calls on the Government to increase education, practical litter prevention measures and penalties to reduce this unnecessary expenditure; and congratulates all those volunteering in support of the Tidy Britain Group's National Spring Clean to improve the environment of towns, cities and countryside.
