The Army routinely assesses the serviceability and safety of its vehicle fleet through established engineering management processes. These include maintenance inspections, supervisory checks and assurance activity recorded and managed on the Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (JAMES) Management Information System.
The Land Equipment Assurance Team inspections capture findings specifically related to the incorrect movement or authorisation of non-taskworthy (NT) vehicles. The findings recorded over the last three full years are as follows;

This data should not be read as evidence that unsafe vehicles were unknowingly used but instead it records a policy breach associated with the journey or authorisation of a NT vehicle on JAMES.
Where non-compliance is identified, units are instructed to take corrective action by addressing the immediate issue, reinforcing engineering policy and capturing lessons to prevent recurrence.

The Army continually assesses its current and planned capabilities to ensure that it is appropriately equipped to face any adversary. Routine changes in equipment and formation numbers are part of this process.
All of the equipment referenced has either commenced or completed the disposal process in accordance with Defence disposal policy.

The vehicles were manufactured under the responsibility of MAN Truck & Bus UK (MTB UK). The base was produced at MAN’s facilities in Germany and Austria, with UK-specific modifications integrated by MTB UK and specialist subcontractors within the UK. The age of the vehicles is approximately 18 years, entering service in 2007/8.

Repair analysis is ongoing; however, initial estimates indicate that all vehicles will be returned to full use by early 2026 in accordance with formation priorities.

The Boxer vehicle and Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) land platforms are supported by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The NSPA manages support solutions for partner nations operating similar equipment, enabling increased economies of scale when purchasing spare parts to support fleets.
In addition, NSPA provides vehicle cleaning services through the Tactical Land System project.

Yes. The British Army uses an application called JAMES (Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions) to centrally track and manage all equipment.

The Ministry of Defence has prioritised its support to Ukraine, including establishing processes to ensure equipment that is retiring, or is surplus to UK military requirements, is considered for donation to Ukraine. Similarly, the Ministry of Defence has enabled the transfer of donated equipment e.g. vehicles, to Ukraine from private organisations, or Other Government Departments such as the Home Office.
We will continue to support and enable donations of equipment.

We welcome support for Ukraine from across civil soceity. In coordination with the Ministry of Defence, the Department of Business and Trade (DBT) cohere donation offers from Industry and assists companies in achieving this goal. DBT regularly meets with defence and security trade associations to discuss requirements, based on Ukraine’s specific requests for equipment.
I pay tribute to my hon. Friend and parliamentary colleagues in all parties for the work they are doing in their constituencies to support our friends in Ukraine. I would be very happy to meet him to see what we can do to support their work further, because we will support Ukraine for as long as it takes.

In May, I was privileged to join a group called Help99 in driving some pick-up trucks and other military vehicles to Kyiv
for the use of Ukrainian soldiers on the frontline. Will the Minister meet me to discuss how we can make it easier for such groups to deliver vehicles, which are so desperately needed?
