The Companies Act 2006 provides powers for the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, my right hon. Friend the Member for Twickenham (Vince Cable), to determine what information companies must disclose in their directors' report. There is no obligation for companies to disclose data on fossil fuel reserves.

The Government will shortly be introducing regulations that amend the Companies Act 2006 to make changes to the narrative reporting framework, including a requirement that quoted companies disclose their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Government has today published draft regulations to amend narrative reporting, after carrying out two detailed consultations. The Government has no plans to require companies to include grievance mechanisms in their annual reports.
