Empty Property

To ask the Secretary of State for Health pursuant to his answer of 15 January 2013, Official Report, column 698W, on health centres: Christchurch, for what reason the disposal of the Department's interest in the property has not yet taken place; and what the cost has been to his Department in empty property rates to date.

The surrender of the lease is dependent upon the landlord reaching an agreement with the proposed hotel operator and planning consent being obtained, both of which are outside the Department's control. This has taken longer than anticipated.
The total rates paid since 2000 are estimated to be £252,250.
