Roads: Greater London

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many people were (a) killed and (b) seriously injured in road traffic accidents in Greater London in (i) 2010-11 and (ii) 2011-12; and if he will make a statement.

Answer

The Department collects and publishes information on reported personal injury road accidents on calendar year bases. The information requested is given in the following table for the 2010 and 2011 calendar years:

Statistics for calendar year 2012 will be published in June 2013.

Road safety is a top priority and it remains a fact that Great Britain's roads are some of the safest in the world.

Any road death or injury is a tragedy and I will continue to take urgent action to crack down on the most dangerous drivers and improve road safety.
