Answer

Miss McIntosh: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he has made of the cost of transferring the HQ of 2{nd} Division from York to Edinburgh; and if he will make a statement. [91320] Mr. Doug Henderson: The main cost of the move will be works required to prepare the headquarters building in Edinburgh, for which some £250,000 has been allowed in this current financial year, and staff transfer costs, for which provision of some £750,000 has been made over the next two years. As far as savings in annual staff costs are concerned, I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Salisbury (Mr. Key) on 19 July 1999, Official Report, column 424.
