Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, if he will assess the applicability of the proposed new models of local authority leadership to fire and rescue authorities. - Includes ref to Cm 4014.

Answer: Mr. Todd: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will assess the applicability of the proposed new models of local authority leadership to fire and rescue authorities; and if he will make a statement. [60193] Mr. Raynsford: As stated in the White Paper "Modern Local Government--In Touch with the People" (Cm 4014), we will consult widely before putting any new models in place. Such consultation will include consideration of the applicability of any model to single service authorities, including metropolitan fire and civil defence authorities and combined fire authorities.
