Question: How many persons were killed in Northern Ireland due to the civil disturbances between 12th August 1970 and 11th February 1992; and how many of these deaths have been attributed to the Provisional IRA. - Inc figs.

Answer: Mr. John D. Taylor: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons were killed in Northern Ireland due to the civil disturbances between 12 August 1970 and 11 February 1992; and how many of these deaths have been attributed to the Provisional IRA. [15341] Sir John Wheeler: Deaths due to the security situation between 12 August 1970 to 11 February 1992 totalled 2,952. Attribution to specific organisations is not available, but 1,746 of the above deaths have been attributed to republican organisations.
