Notes: {1} HCHS figures for 1989 to 1994 are based on staff on general and senior manager payscales and staff on administrative and clerical payscales. A new classification of staff was introduced in 1995 which classifies staff by what they do rather than how they are paid. The figures for 1995 are, therefore, not directly comparable with figures for earlier years. GMS figures include: secretarial and reception staff in 1989; figures from 1990 also include clerical staff, practice managers and computer operators, and figures for 1995 include fund managers. All figures are rounded to the nearest 10. All HCHS figures are at 30 September each year, and GMS figures as at 1 October of each year.
