Answer: Mr. Kevin Hughes: To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what progress has been made in respect of a radio station for Doncaster referred to in her statement of 2 July 1996, Official Report, column 873. [12243] Mrs. Virginia Bottomley: Responsibility for the advertising, award and regulation of independent radio licences rests with the Radio Authority, acting within the terms of the Broadcasting Acts 1990 and 1996. The authority announced on 9 October 1996 that, subject to receiving evidence of interest from prospective applicants, it proposes to advertise a licence designed to cover most or all of the metropolitan borough of Doncaster. This licence is one of a series it plans to advertise from autumn 1997 onwards. As yet, no final decision has been taken to advertise the licence; nor has a specific time scale been announced.
