Delegation of Powers

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what consideration his Department is giving to further delegation of powers to city regions.

Answer: The Government are supporting a cross party amendment to the Localism Bill, proposed by the Core Cities Group, which will support greater devolution to help drive economic prosperity and growth across England. This amendment will provide an enabling power to allow for the transfer of public functions and delegation of ministerial functions to cities and other localities to increase their economic competitiveness. Any transfer of powers to particular places would be for the decision of the relevant Secretary of State and subject to discussion and agreement with individual cities and affirmative resolutions in both houses of Parliament.
