Flooding

Question: To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether, in answering all questions on mapping data relating to flood plains, "mapping data" will be interpreted as including high-resolution height data for flood plains in Cumbria; and whether, in light of this, they will review the Written Answer by Lord Henley of 3 November (WA 414).

Answer: The Environment Agency does not routinely provide high-resolution height data because it is not needed to understand the flood maps which are available on the Environment Agency's website. The preparation of the maps incorporates the necessary analysis of topographical data. Where the Environment Agency is asked for information, it will consider each request, checking compliance with relevant legislation and any confidentialities. If the Environment Agency has contracted work to third parties or is collaborating in a project, it normally supplies height data as part of its contribution.
