Schools: Academies

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether new Academy trusts will be required to fund building adaptations and specialist equipment to support children allocated to the school with low incidence special educational needs.

The vast majority of children with low incidence special educational needs will have a statement. Local authorities retain responsibility for pupils with statements in academies on the same basis as for statemented pupils in maintained schools. Where a statement states that building adaptations or specialist equipment is required, the local authority has responsibility for funding this.
