- To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many people in Essex are employed in agriculture.

I have been asked to reply.The total agricultural labour force on registered holdings in Essex (comprising Essex CC, Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea unitary authorities) at June 2007 is shown as follows.
Number Total farmers, partners, directors and spouses (if working on holding) 4,800 Total workers (full, part-time and casual) 4,599 Total labour force 9,399 Note: As the annual June Survey is based on a sample, estimates have been made for holdings not surveyed. Source: June Agricultural Survey
