Qualifications and Curriculum Authority

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what estimate he has made of the proportion of staff at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority who will (a) relocate and (b) resign when it relocates; and if he will make a statement.

Answer: This is a matter for the Board of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, as it considers the plans for the relocation of the organisation, in response to the review by Sir Michael Lyons on relocating public sector jobs outside London and the South East.The QCA Board agreed in principle to relocate by March 2010 at its March 2006 meeting, and in May agreed the criteria it will use in considering possible locations. Decisions on its preferred location are expected at the September meeting of the QCA Board, after which recommendations and a business case will go to the Secretary of State, although the final decision is for the Chief Secretary to the Treasury on the advice of the Office of Government Commerce.
