EU Accession Countries (Immigration)

- To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment has been made of the effect on public expenditure in the West Midlands region of immigration from EU accession countries since May 2004; and if he will make a statement.

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer I gave the hon. Member for Peterborough (Mr. Jackson) on 12 May 2006, Official Report, column 619W.The West Midlands region has received 6.8 per cent. of the total number of applications for income-related benefits made by nationals from the accession countries between May 2004 and December 2005.
