Environmental Projects

Question
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much and what percentage of environmental taxes went to funding environmental projects in 2004–05.
Answer

Environmental taxes are not directly hypothecated to environmental spending. Consistent with the principle of shifting the burden of tax from ‘goods' to ‘bads', environmental taxes such as the Climate Change Levy and Aggregates Levy were introduced with corresponding reductions in employers' national insurance contributions.
