Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Peter Kilfoyle (Labour), on Tuesday, 14 July 2009, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 117 members in total.
STRATEGIC DEFENCE REVIEW
That this House believes that any forthcoming Strategic Defence Review should examine all aspects of United Kingdom defence and security; is concerned that the Government excludes from the review which it has announced consideration of the replacement of the Trident nuclear weapons system; notes the Government's intention to conclude the Initial Gate decision on Trident replacement which will commit additional funds to the submarine design process in September 2009, during the Parliamentary recess; requests that, in the light of pressure on the defence budget and the forthcoming review, the Initial Gate decision be delayed until Parliament is in session and can be presented with the Initial Gate report for scrutiny.
